How To Improve Your Job Performance
Ever wonder what really helps foster your professional development? What actions you can actually do to advance your success or the success of an employee to achieve your highest levels of peak performance? Much has be written on this subject, and it is often the topic for motivational seminars and training. Implementing a process or having true impact with lasting results often seems a nebulous goal. It’s something we all want – to be the most successful we possible can be—yet how do you move yourself from where you are now? How do you go on to higher levels of achievement with a flourishing career? Every person’s professional life has valleys and victorious moments, so what does work that has a long term professional impact. The answer is understanding, developing and promoting your strengths to create a successful personal brand. Outlined in the new book, "Soaring on Your Strengths" (Penguin 2006), the process brings you into a new world of self-mastery and job performance. Many people define themselves without paying any heed to what they do well. The value you possess is independent of the company or organization you work for. Your worth is not measured by your title, position, power, or salary. Most people internalize what the outside world has said, but Personal Power – not status, not position – is personal. Your power IS inside you. Your personal banner needs to be: ‘I have value! I have worth! How dare anyone tell me I’m worthless?’ Never forget that you control your own personal power, create your own happiness, and choose whether or not to use your talents. The first step of developing your personal brand AKA Brand You really starts with your inner belief and an attitude that you are special, have natural gifts and have great value to offer the world. Every person has been given their own destiny. Some choose to use their talents, while others ignore and waste them, living life unfulfilled and often unrewarded. Sadly, too many people don’t see how great they could be. So many don’t feel special or talented or unique. They reinforce these confidence-dooming thoughts with self-defeating talk. Even outwardly successful people – managers, directors and top executives – can suffer from doubts or the imposter complex. Too many think, “I’m faking it. I’m really not that good.” Others think, “I’m just average, there’s nothing special about me.” But they are wrong. It is their negative self-talk that creates the doubts and devalues what is unique or special about themselves.
Each and every single person alive has unique and valuable strengths. Taking notice of yours, develop them, enhance what you do well is the key to ultimate and long term success. And remember, self promotion is essential to take career to an even higher level, so do take credit for your accomplishments and be sure you use your best talents daily. © Copyright 2008 Robin Ryan.
